Montgomery Creek fire victim identified
MONTGOMERY CREEK -- The body of a man found in a burned mobile home here has been identified as 67-year-old David Joseph Lawson, said deputy coroner Mike Booth.
Lawson died early Friday of smoke inhalation and thermal burns, said Booth.
The fire was reported at 3:25 a.m. in a double-wide mobile home on Seclusion Way in the Fenders Ferry Road area, said Mike Witesman, a California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection spokesman.
Contained by 5 a.m., the blaze caused an estimated $200,000 in damage; the cause of the fire is still under investigation by Cal Fire, Booth said.
Three cars crash on Highway 44
Highway 44 was chaotic Monday afternoon.
First, a roadside fire slowed motorists about 3 p.m.; then approximately 45 minutes later, a mattress flew out of the back of a pickup, causing a three-vehicle wreck, said California Highway Patrol spokesman Kurt Heuer.
Although no one was hurt, traffic was backed up almost to downtown Redding.

Why do they make us wait until we're 40 years old before they'll allow us to qualify for free breast cancer screenings? One of my best friends was 19 years old when she was diagnossed with Breast Cancer. NINETEEN! Check yourselves, ladies. It's not just an older-lady cancer.
If she had followed governmental guidelines, she'd be dead right now.
